Quote for the Day : The Light that is You

“…Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world.
All things break.  And all things can be mended.
Not with time, as they say, but with intention.
So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally.
The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you…”

Quote for the Day : And So I Must Still Have Hope

“…Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious,
to believe that the world could still change for the better.
And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’
Yes, evil often seems to surpass good.
But then, in spite of us, and without our permission,
there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts.
One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw.
And so I must still have hope…”

Quote for the Day : Little Lives

“…And I learned what is obvious to a child. That life is simply a collection of little lives, each lived one day at a time. That each day should be spent finding beauty in flowers and poetry and talking to animals. That a day spent with dreaming and sunsets and refreshing breezes cannot be bettered…”

Look at Me (Collage)

Hello everyone 🙂

This is a piece I made a few weeks back.  I had finished the collage itself but couldn’t settle on the words for it.  Then, after watching Grease one night with my nephew (his choice of movie – I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate or not for an eleven-year old, but then I remembered that is exactly the age I was when I first watched it all the way through) I kept getting the “Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee” song in my head.  Not the saucy slumber-party version that Rizzo sings, but the sad, navel-gazing one that plays when Sandy is watching the car race.  The bird-lady here seemed to be channeling that mood and feeling, so I went with it.

The original mirror had actually been cut from the lady’s hand, so I had to go searching through my cut-up books to find another one of the same size.  I got lucky.  That mirror looks like it belongs there – I don’t think you would know I had used a different one from another picture.  Small triumphs can make your day.  And those skinny little legs and toes were nerve-wracking to cut out and adhere too – they were pretty fragile, especially once they had glue on them.  But, she survived, intact, and ready for some self-appraisal and soul-searching.  As anyone would do, if they were a stork wearing a dress 🙂

Thank you for stopping by – hope you have a lovely week x

Quote for the Day : Quiet & Calm

“…In a noisy world like ours, the best gift to have is a quiet mind. In a dangerous world like this one, the best gift to own is a calm soul. In a life like we are placed in, the best gift to receive is a serene outlook. May we have all three of these gifts…”

Never Mind the Rest (Collage)

A post-Easter bunny for you today, with a quote from Beatrix Potter.  This collage came together so quickly, with a minimum of fuss.  I panicked a bit, towards the end, thinking I was going to get all the words on.  But I managed to just fit them all in (I really need to get better at mapping these things out before I start them…).  I love the vintage bunny, and it was a change to work with the pink tones too.

Have a good day – thanks for stopping by 🙂
